As someone who was personally victimized by a hurricane a couple years ago I can say in an emergency situation, I used almost none of the “hurricane preparedness” items I had. Top items I would say are a MUST to have in your kit: important documents in a ziplock baggie, flashlight or headlamp, fully charged charging bank and phone cord, spare change of clothes in a gallon ziplock, small amount of emergency pet supplies/pet carrier, medications/glasses/contact lenses. When I evacuated my home DURING a hurricane I took nothing but my phone, a flashlight, my pet, and a single bottle of water with me and should have definitely been more prepared!
