@_.lilraynedrop: 🌿 HERBAL & SUPPLEMENT ACADEMY THURSDAY 🌿 ✨ TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT: ASHWAGANDHA ✨ Ancient Adaptogen or Overhyped Supplement? Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries—and today it’s EVERYWHERE. You’ll see claims about cortisol, stress, sleep, hormones, weight loss, energy…the list goes on. But what does the evidence actually say? 🔬🌱 💚 WHERE THE RESEARCH LOOKS PROMISING 🧠 Stress & anxiety: Some human studies suggest ashwagandha may help reduce perceived stress and anxiety symptoms. 😴 Sleep: Research suggests it may modestly improve sleep quality in some people, particularly those experiencing sleep difficulties. ❤️ Mood & well-being: Improvements have been reported in some studies, although we still need larger, longer-term research. ⚠️ NOW FOR THE PART SOCIAL MEDIA SOMETIMES LEAVES OUT… Natural does NOT mean risk-free. Ashwagandha may affect thyroid hormone levels and can cause drowsiness. It may also interact with certain medications, including sedatives, thyroid medications, blood-pressure or blood-sugar medications, and drugs that suppress the immune system. There have also been rare reports of liver injury associated with ashwagandha supplements. 🤰 It's generally recommended to avoid it during pregnancy, and there isn't enough information to establish safety during breastfeeding. 🌿 WHAT ABOUT “LOWERING CORTISOL”? This is one reason ashwagandha has exploded on social media. Some clinical trials have reported reductions in cortisol along with improvements in perceived stress—but that doesn't mean everyone with fatigue, belly fat, poor sleep, or difficulty losing weight has “high cortisol,” nor does it make ashwagandha a universal cortisol treatment. And despite some of the marketing claims, ashwagandha is not a proven weight-loss supplement. 💊 HOW IS IT USED? Studies have used different preparations and doses, so there isn't one universally appropriate dose. Many trials have studied standardized root or root-and-leaf extracts in the few-hundred-milligram-per-day range for several weeks. The extract, concentration and withanolide content matter—which is another reason two bottles labeled “ashwagandha” aren't necessarily equivalent. 🌱Revive&Thrive's TAKEAWAY Ashwagandha isn't magic—and it isn't nonsense either. There is legitimate research behind some of its uses, particularly stress and sleep, but we need to respect the difference between promising evidence and proven treatment. That's what Herbal & Supplement Academy is all about: 💚 KNOW BETTER. CHOOSE WISELY. LIVE WELL. Herbs are powerful. INFORMATION is power. 🌿 ⚕️ Educational information only. Supplements can interact with medications and medical conditions. Discuss supplements with your healthcare provider or pharmacist before adding them to your routine. 👇 Have you ever tried ashwagandha?
