Big news for anyone in the States who’s been putting off an Okinawa trip. United Airlines just announced the first ever nonstop flight from the US mainland to Okinawa. San Francisco straight to Naha, no layover in Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul or Hong Kong. Here’s what we know so far. Service starts March 27th, 2027, flown on a Boeing 777. Three flights a week out of San Francisco, Monday, Thursday and Saturday, departing 10:35 in the morning and landing in Okinawa the following afternoon at 3:50. Coming home you leave Okinawa at 5:50 in the evening on Tuesday, Friday or Sunday and land in San Francisco at 12:50 the same day, because you cross the date line and get the day back. It’s a seasonal route running March through October, which happens to be our best window on the water. United says it’ll be the only US airline flying nonstop to Okinawa, and this is the first time in over 25 years they’ve served the island at all. Seats are already on sale, though the route still needs final government approval. Why it matters. Until now, getting here from America meant a long haul plus a domestic connection, and most people just went to Tokyo or Kyoto instead. That excuse is gone. Okinawa isn’t a version of mainland Japan. It’s the Ryukyu Islands, its own language, its own food, its own history, white sand and turquoise water, and about 160 islands you can actually get to. That’s where we come in. If you’re booking those March through October dates, message us and we’ll hold a campervan for your trip. Sleep at the beach, wake up somewhere new, skip the hotel and the rental car. Save this post for when you book the flight. #okinawa #OkinawaJapan #visitokinawa #JapanTravel #unitedairlines
