1️⃣ 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗲 Ground every claim in the existing literature. Cite the key studies, theories, and authors in your area accurately and consistently, and favor credible, current, peer-reviewed sources while including the foundational works. Citing shows you know the field, but it is only the starting point. 2️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 Show where sources agree. Group studies that share findings, methods, theories, or conclusions, and say what the consensus is. This is what turns a list of summaries into a synthesis organized by theme rather than by author. 3️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁 Show where sources disagree. Point out conflicting findings, competing theories, or differences in methodology, population, or context, and consider why they differ. Disagreements often point to the gaps your research can address. 4️⃣ 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 Evaluate the sources instead of just reporting them. Ask whether the methods were sound, the sample adequate, the evidence convincing, and the conclusions justified, and whether there are biases or limitations. Make your judgments in a fair, evidence-based tone. 5️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 Link the literature to your own work. Show how the sources fit together to tell a story about the field, and how that story leads to your research question, hypothesis, or study. Your review should end by making clear what gap your work fills and why it matters. ✅𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 ✔️ Don’t treat the five Cs as separate sections. They work together within paragraphs, such as comparing two studies, contrasting them with a third, and critiquing the weaker one. ✔️ Organize by themes or debates, not by source. ✔️ Use the Cs as a revision checklist: if a section only cites, it’s probably just a summary. #phd #fypシ #thesis #dissertation
