the only reason to mark up a rate is if you have to buy it. for those that dont understand, if you have horrible credit, the bank makes the dealership pay a flat to get the approval. so if the bank is charging us 1200 dollars to get you approved, you mark the rate up a point or two to get that money back. any other reason just isnt cool. thats why people get outside financing. a good dealer will just give you the best rate

Credit Union will always have best rates....Most dealers wont accept outside financing aka "draft" checks bc its basically a cash deal for them. Little to no profit. Than car guys get bad rep.

This would make sense if buy rate was below market. But it’s not. Buy rate is the market average is not the same. So you aren’t getting any “magic rates”. You just have the option to mark em up, that’s the point. Unless it’s an incentive rate but that’s from the manufacturer incentive not a relationship

You go out to eat. You order a Diet Coke. It cost the restaurant $0.40. You pay $6.00. But no one bats an eye about that

The dealer model of trying to make money at every turn and it's never a set price to all consumers is the problem. One person snags a car for 6k below msrp no adds and no financing. Next guy buys the same car a day later and pays 2k below msrp and you con them into adds and a VSC and 2% of his loan just because he isn't smart or knowledgeable enough to know he's getting completely shafted by the sales person that is pretending to be their best friend for one more sale and a bigger commission check.

Does the consumer at signing know you're making money on his rate? Is it disclosed what the rates are?

Loan Officers make 1% of the loan. Nothing more, nothing less. Y’all are the ones holding 2 points and charging double for warranties. I’m just trying to sell cars and yall give us a horrible name. Not your fault, I blame the banks

Quite simple. Go to your local credit union. Get your approval through them.. if the man in the box can get you a better rate (unlikely) use the best rate. You don’t have to disclose what your rate is from the CU to the dealer but let dealer know that you may use your own financing.. this way.. dealer will put their best foot forward when presenting financing options

your paying for the convience of the finance manager doing the work..if you want a better rate go get loan yourself..if 2 points make a difference for you shouldn't be buying the car
