I saw someone in the Hobonichi subreddit that mixed their own inks using Deatramentis to match the Hobonichi ones and they shared the formula for each one so everyone else can do it too.

I’m so happy that you called this out, I thought the same thing! I was so excited at first, until I saw the price 🥲 no thank you. I think it’s predatory because people definitely will buy this just because it’s by hobonichi

I know you love Esterbrook but this is why I recently talked myself out of getting one for my birthday next week. I cant justify the prices without a gold nib so im looking at Pilot Custom 74's now... makes me sad bc i LOVEEEEE the Esterbrok esthetic & i want one sooooo bad but I guess unless its gifted or I get lucky it won't be happening. def a bummer.. the pricing on some of the pen related stuff feels a little gougey🫤

I feel this way about a lot of items this year! I had a long list of things I wanted and I've had to scratch most of them off of my list because they are just too expensive. This ink set and the fountain pen were all cut from the list. Same for the rotating date stamp that is $55 for some reason. it's disappointing for sure!

Thank you for calling this out! That is an absolutely ridiculous price for tiny sample bottles of ink! Their behavior makes me not even want to buy their planner this year. There are so many other planners that are better priced with the same or better quality paper.

Thank you for sharing!! My issue was not knowing where to buy sample sizes elsewhere! I didn’t want to be stuck buying full bottles that may or may not match. Do you have any other recommendations of retailers to purchase sample size inks?

Omg yes!! I agree! I saw the prices and was a little thrown back… and the samples are very small. Mind you, you can buy a nice fountain pen for $70 😭😭😭😭😭. And I loved the idea of having matching ink!

Am I the only one that doesn’t pay much attention to the colors of the Hobonichi? Like my whole brain does not care at all, so much so I don’t even notice when the colors in the book change. 😂 Inks matching those colors? I like certain ink colors and brands, so anything outside of my little scope has no space. Also, I think, what was it, pens?, last year did so well that’s why they are capitalizing on the matching aspect, as least that’s how I’m seeing it.
