Many syllabi are poorly written, lack inclusivity, and don't communicate Integrity in a way that supports learning. If a professor, who is an expert in the material uses AI to make the syllabus better, why would we object to this?

I don’t use AI and do things the old school way. AI makes too many mistakes. I will say I am a lot slower in building curriculum and grading because I actually read everything submitted.

I'd be pissed. I won't use AI for my work and expect a professional level educator to do the same. Perhaps in higher level courses in specific math/science fields, I could understand the inclusion of AI in the curriculum, but I don't want AI /making/ the curriculum. If I wanted to learn from AI (which I don't) I'd just do my learning online, certainly wouldn't pay for it

Honestly using generative AI to come up with case studies and scenarios can be helpful. Using it for grading shouldn’t ever be allowed. 🤷🏻♀️

I dropped my library ethics course on the first day because my law librarian professor admitted to using it in his lectures, grading, & career. I didn’t want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a class the prof can’t even be bothered to teach independently

AI is so dumb, too. It's always so full of mistakes and gibberish. I told my students that if you use AI, you have to already know enough about the topic that you can identify and correct all the AI garbage before turning in the work. At that point, you may as well just do it yourself.

As a professor I am using AI to create tools that help my students to practice skills. I built a simulation for my students that used many tools to create the simulations. 🤷🏾♀️I think if used ethically it can be a great way to enhance education without removing the human level expertise. I am actually publishing a paper on that right now. I created a framework.

Absolutely. It removes any expectation between a professor and student to equally show up in a classroom. Unless the class involves the building or use of AI, it should never be used. If a professor needs AI to do their job, they either need to restructure their obligations. Or rethink their career

Graduated with my MLIS last year and the professor for my very last class was super pro-AI, working it into any lecture/discussion he could. It was so demoralizing on my part (and I imagine other students’ parts based on their reactions) that we just wanted to get our credit and be done with it rather than actually try to learn as much as we could.

I agree. I teach at the university level and I teach AI free courses which means I will not use AI and expect the students to do likewise. It’s wild how many profs won’t accept AI from students but use it themselves.

Currently staff and in the higher ed masters program at app.. I have seen professors use AI to create rubrics for projects they design. Almost always the original idea is theirs and use AI for another output or grading mode. Not against it but transparency is crucial. And if the professor uses it then students should also be allowed to utilize ai. I prefer when professors are staunchly against and don’t it use at all. Less murky guidelines

I don’t think I’m paying for an expert HOWEVER I’m also NOT paying for something I could generate with chat myself if I used AI at all. I would have already complained to the provost probably ahhahaa

I would be livid. AI is not accurate or helpful enough to be replacing educators' expertise. It feels like people think AI is an easy shortcut when it's generally garbage. I wouldn't trust that I'm getting a real education

I’m a professor. I just added a note to my AI policy that I do NOT use AI to grade/develop the course. I also take classes, and I just took one that obviously leaned heavily into AI and it was really demoralizing.

yes 1000%, this is happening to me currently. But i’m almost done, so i’m going to tough it out. unfortunately, i feel many professors in my major (cybersecurity/computer science) will use it no matter where i go.

I’ll be upset. Hands down. Like how did they become a professor without using AI? How did they get all that knowledge without AI? I would want my professor to teach me and grade me based on what’s in their head and books. If they want me to write my paper based on what I researched without using AI, I expect them to do the same.

Yes absolutely I graduated with an illustration degree and one of my final illustration classes required us to use ai for an assignment and I was absolutely livid

oh gosh as a prof im so embarrassed. I mainly just use it as a faster Google search. like I was looking for an undergrad friendly resource on a specific type of methodology and used ai to find it faster. got a resource in 15 seconds when it wouldve taken me 5-10 minutes to find it myself which isnt much but it adds up. I copied the link I clicked on from the ai and sent it to my student and it showed the ai I used in the link 😭 I'm going to be doing things on my own from now on. i realized not wanting my students to know I occasionally use it means I shouldn't be using it.
