@electricalmath: Can we derive the Maximum Power Transfer Theorem using nothing more than the AM-GM (arithmetic mean vs geometric mean) inequality? By expressing the load power in terms of the load resistance and applying AM-GM, we can show directly that the maximum occurs when the load resistance matches the Thevenin resistance. It can also help to have an intuitive understanding of transmission line theory. If you can recognize that maximum power transfer occurs when you have no power reflected back toward the source, then you know you are looking for the condition at which there are no voltage or current reflections. I.e. your load is matched to your transmission line or if you don’t have a transmission line, your load is matched to your source.
