TROOPERS SAY SHE DROVE 36 MILES THE WRONG WAY HOME FROM THE CASINO, THEN TRIED TO KISS THE TROOPER WHO ARRESTED HER Scott's take: Pro tip from 31 years of DUI cases: the trooper writing your report is not your date. Calling 911 on yourself, driving 36 miles in the wrong direction and puckering up during the seat-belt check is not the defense strategy I'd recommend. A 42-year-old Chicago woman left a casino in Gary, Indiana, headed home to Chicago, and somehow ended up 36 miles in the wrong direction, according to Indiana State Police. Troopers say it started at about 1:36 a.m. Sunday, when dispatchers got a 911 call from a woman later identified as Meisha Thomas. She sounded "highly intoxicated" and gave dispatchers "erratic information," police said. Dispatchers tracked her traveling south on Interstate 65 near the Lowell exit in Lake County. A trooper caught up with the car after it crossed into Jasper County, where police say it was going 30 to 50 mph in a 70 mph zone, swerving across lanes and forcing other drivers to brake and swerve. Police say Thomas didn't stop right away for the lights and siren, and finally pulled over in the left lane of the interstate. The trooper reported slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, poor coordination and a strong odor of alcohol. She couldn't safely complete field sobriety tests and refused chemical testing, so troopers got a search warrant for a blood draw at a local hospital. And then the arrest got awkward. State police say Thomas made repeated inappropriate comments and advances toward the trooper, including trying to kiss him as he buckled her seat belt. She was booked into the Jasper County Jail. Her next court date hasn't been released. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. #CrimeTalk #TrueCrime #Indiana #Chicago #DUI #MeishaThomas
