@rignellranch: 8 years sober and I still feel so much shame when sharing this part of my life. Even though it’s something I’m so proud to have overcome! Everyone’s story and journey of sobriety is different, here is mine. I shave struggled most of my adult life and had a horrible relationship with alcohol. I could never just have one or few drinks, it was always to get drunk. For years, I would play games with myself like “I’m only going to drink on the weekends” or “I’ll quit for a week and be fine”. But always fell back into the same cycle. When I knew it was time to quit, I was drinking to get drunk most nights of the week. For me it wasn’t during the day so some friends and family didn’t even know it was a problem. I was just so mentally and physically exhausted from the constant battle to stop that I just decided I couldn’t live that way anymore. Knowing alcoholism runs in my family I was teetering the edge of something bad, I could feel it. It as wasn’t the person, spouse or MOM I wanted to be, so I quit cold turkey and never looked back. A year after I quit I started this account in search of “something more” and I think I’ve found it! Thanks for the support and being here to follow along.
