Agree but they should definitely have the tools as their disposal to be creative if they are going to be indoors. Solidarity confinement for lack of a better term does nothing developmentally.

Yes! I know people rag on Gen X/Boomer methods of raising kids, but it results in children feeling entitled to being constantly entertained and feeling like they should always be the center of attention, it’s good for them to be bored! It creates problem solving attitudes. Spoken by me who was a previously bored kid😂

My son can entertain himself with a rock. Independent play and just being able to be bored is so important.

So I tried this one time when my son was in fourth grade…. He decided that he was going to keep himself busy by rollerblading in the house and playing his recorder at the same time (you know those annoying recorders they get in in elementary school?!) 😭🙈😫

So true! I think it helps adults too. Screens are not a “filler” in our home for the kids or adults.

I am so proud of my 8 and 10 year old and the many ways they found to occupy themselves this summer! No devices at our house except the tv and I’m so glad we’ve stuck with that!

Yes! My kids say they’re bored and asking what they can do. I say, “I’m not the entertainment committee. Go figure it out.” And they usually get so creative and have fun for hours in their fort they built, outside, etc.

(It also comes from our childhood, I specifically grew up very neglected) but yes! I agree they need "bored time" to get those little brains working.

absolutely love this! just got a yukon denali and i chose absolutely no tv’s i had them before and they are straight trash! always having a screen in front of them is just not necessary and my son has a tendency to ask for my phone or his tablet the tv’s would have made it worse

Saturdays we sit with the tv off and I lay on the couch. No fist fights and lmk when you’re hungry for food 😂😂 they have free access to unlimited snacks
