@guardian: “I started running. Then a wall of water came thundering down as if it was an earthquake,” said Bibek Kumal, a 68-year-old labourer who was working downstream from the worst-hit Rasuwa district, near Nepal’s Himalayan border with Tibet. “I tried to grab my wife’s hand and take her to the terrace. But she was swept away by the mud. Four or five hours later, a helicopter came to rescue me. My wife is still somewhere beneath the mud. She’s gone.” Rescuers are searching for nearly 1,400 people, most of them tourists, after the flood, which the US Geological Survey said was caused by “a glacial collapse”, wiped out entire villages and killed at least 356 people. Srijana Gurung, the acting country director of the Plan International Nepal development group, said in a statement that "floods and landslides have always happened in Nepal but the climate crisis is making them far more frequent and intense". Why does this feel like what Hurricane Helene did to Appalachia. Literally I’m having flash backs from seeing this. The same thing happened in NC.

why are you building cities in a valley that got created by this exact thing? why build down stream from a major dam? this was going to happen at some point.

I know it's damn near impossible... But countries really need to start trying to relocate people and homes to higher ground... Climate change is gonna make everything so extreme that those riverbeds are so dangerous even if they haven't been so for decades.... I don't know what we are supposed to do.
