@codependencykate: Replying to @TheAllBlue Hating someone is an illusion of accountability. Accountability requires you being accountable to yourself which = nervous system regulation, willingness to be wrong & offering resources to help if need be. That’s what being a villager is.

This falls between word soup and toxic advice. Walking up to parents in a restaurant and inserting yourself in any manner is a fast way to spend the night talking to cops. Love your message overall.

honestly i feel like when people say “i don’t hate kids i hate their parents” they’re really just saying they hate kids without saying it.

They always think saying this makes it better! It’s doesn’t. A child is behaving like a child and it doesn’t mean a parent is failing.

This reminds me of a time I saw a woman approach a wild child in public and just say “do you need help?” This response blew my authoritarian raised mind and I try to remember it when I’m going down my own Judgement Road 😅

Yeeeessss as a kid therapist I have a daily “staying mad at the parents is not productive” holding contempt for the parents clouds your judgment and I can’t show up for the kids or tap into resourcefulness. It’s also the quickest way to burn out. So I think “how can I build a relationship with this parent?” Or if they’re really obstinate “how can I connect with this kid and arm them with the skills to be there for themselves when I leave?”

The very hard quest of changing your focus towards helping the victims instead of taking revenge on the perpetrators... Attacking the perpetrators often doesn't actually help the children. 😅

Yep I’ll glare the fuck at stupid parents that let their dumb kids scream and crying constantly in a public place without interrupting that pattern and taking care of it
