I feel like I keep running into the same pattern with female friendships. I’ve tried making Muslim friends at the masjid and MSA, but they often already have their own friend groups, treat me like a backup friend, or I feel excluded because they mainly socialize with Asian or Arab Muslims. Sometimes the friendship becomes nothing more than texting, when I actually want to meet up and spend time together in person.
I also tend to explain myself when there’s a misunderstanding, but people sometimes interpret that as arguing or attacking them. After years of feeling excluded, I eventually lashed out and got angry, and I was kicked out of my MSA. It’s frustrating because I genuinely want real friendships, but I keep ending up feeling rejected and felt they were racist m.
