Units like the 11th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division "Nordland"—which included significant numbers of Danish and Norwegian recruits—and the 4th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Brigade "Nederland," composed largely of Dutch and Flemish-Belgian volunteers, formed the backbone of the III (Germanic) SS Panzer Corps. Alongside them, Estonian and Latvian personnel mobilized to resist a looming Soviet reoccupation, holding the defensive lines along the Narva River and the Tannenberg Line for nearly six months.
