@necessaryandserious: More from #theglore 🧠🏥 it was so cool to see medical history up close! 🔍 I don’t have enough photos, but I also loved touring the kitchen area with vintage serving dishes, and reading about how patients experienced mealtimes. 🥗 There was a gigantic salad bowl, like 2 feet in diameter and made of steel. The plaque nearby explained it was filled with salad made with veggies from the properties garden (maintained by patients), and placed on a huge bed of ice. 🧊 In the early era of the #glorepsychiatricmuseum ice was collected in winter and stored in an icehouse. It’s so crazy to imagine such a long process to serve salad! The ice collecting tools were also on display 🪚 @St. Joseph Museums, Inc. #stjoemo #psychiatricmuseum #medicalhistory
Do they still have the display of the hundreds of items one patient had ingested? My grandfather worked there as an aid. Even brought a patient to Thanksgiving dinner one year is what I was told.
