@chiefgyk3d: OPSEC best practice? Get off the internet. VPNs are just shifting trust, not eliminating risk. Your ISP isn't that interested unless compelled. #OPSEC #Cybersecurity #VPN #Privacy #TechTips
my ISP watching me download 200GB from unspecified websites every day

say it louder for the people in the back 👏 You moved your trust from your ISP to a VPN company, how much can you really trust the employees at NordVPN etc

My ISP will rat me out to the police for pirating movies. The VPN cant. Even if they are a honeypot they wont expose the honeypot for just pirating movies.

People really seem to forget that VPN companies can, will, and have been subpoenad for information, and there's not a great deal they can do to say no.
If the company running the VPN is in a country friendly to whatever government you're hiding from, they could still find you if they wanted to.
If the company isn't from a country friendly with yours, do you really want them being the ones with all the access to your data?

Besides, IP address is just one variable in device ID, and the giants like google have already profiled your devices and a simple IP change can't fool them

vpns, imo, have only good use case for geo-locked shit. it's REALLY helpful to bypass location based stuff on Netflix or whatever

yeah living in the UK the government does compel them to do it by law now so it has its use. upload your ID or face to every site that wants age verification or just use the VPN

other people maybe use a vpn from a provider for better peering or better IPv4 on CGNAT over a IPv6 connection..

its post 9/11, post snowden, like.... the government always knows. just dont do illegal stuff, outside of that, yeah protect yourself from some stuff and low level people, but you're not hiding from a nation state or its resources unless you live in a mud hut. 🤷
