@pitochk: Metamorphosis is one of those processes that almost doesn’t feel real. A caterpillar disappears inside a chrysalis, and after an incredibly complex transformation, a butterfly emerges. Not just a bigger animal or a slightly different version of itself, but a body rebuilt for an entirely different life. And perhaps the most fascinating part is that the transformation doesn’t necessarily erase the past. Studies suggest that some butterflies and moths can retain learned associations from their time as larvae. The body changes almost beyond recognition, yet something from the previous life remains. And butterflies aren’t alone. Beetles, flies, frogs and many other animals go through their own dramatic transformations. There is something incredibly beautiful about it.
