But as the philosopher Selena Gomez once said, "the heart wants what it wants", and it has wanted it for far too long. Call it emotional sunk cost, if you will. And so I decided to stay with Sony for at least another generation and preorder the Alpha 7 Mark V. Cropless 4k60p in 10-bit 4:2:2 was the passphrase; the format I needed to keep up with the times. But it also has to shoot that in APS-C mode whenever I need to, and shoot them non-stop until the battery or storage runs out. That means it should not run too hot to the point of stopping the recording or completely shutting down. And then there were the other things which turn out to also matter to me: better autofocus, embedded gyro metadata, and a monitor that can tilt without flipping out to the side (though it can do that too). Sucks that it doesn't do open gate, but I can manage. What sucks even more is that Slot 2 doesn't take in CF Express Cards. The slower V90 SD Cards are more expensive nowadays. I don't need either for now. But I sure do hope these are not signs of Sony becoming complacent, and that the future holds more excitement for the series. Along with the Mark V is the 35mm GM lens, my first f/1.4 lens. Let's see what kind of images this combo will put out. Lastly, the PGYTECH backpack that came free with the A7V is seriously such a good get. It's as good as making out one of my main EDC bag, especially now that I have the A7C II to bring around with me outside. Awesome choice, Sony Philippines marketing team!
