@girlthepoet: #creatorsearchinsights Avoidant attachment can create a confusing dating pattern that leaves someone asking, “Is my boyfriend attracted to me?” “Why does my avoidant partner seem emotionally disconnected?” or “Why would someone date me if I’m not their usual physical type?” Sometimes, a person with an avoidant attachment style may feel safer dating someone who doesn’t trigger overwhelming physical attraction or intense romantic chemistry. This does NOT mean every avoidant person does this, or that dating outside your usual “type” means there’s no attraction. But psychologically, emotional distance can feel safer to someone who associates intimacy with vulnerability, engulfment, rejection, loss of control, or eventual pain. For some dismissive avoidants or fearful avoidants, intense attraction can actually activate the attachment system. The more emotionally important someone becomes, the more there is to lose. Strong chemistry can create longing, dependence, jealousy, vulnerability, and the terrifying realization: “This person has the power to hurt me.” So an avoidantly attached person may unconsciously gravitate toward relationships that feel more manageable. Someone can be attractive enough, compatible, kind, safe, and desirable while not producing the overwhelming intensity they associate with losing control. That emotional buffer can allow them to stay in the relationship without feeling completely consumed by it. But there can be a painful consequence. If emotional safety is being created through detachment rather than secure intimacy, their partner may eventually feel it. They may start wondering: “Why doesn’t my boyfriend desire me?” “Why doesn’t my girlfriend seem attracted to me?” “Why do I feel like my avoidant partner loves me but isn’t in love with me?” “Why am I constantly trying to prove I’m desirable?” And that can destroy someone’s self-esteem. Because you should never have to spend a relationship auditioning to become somebody’s type. The goal of healing avoidant attachment isn’t finding a partner you can comfortably keep at arm’s length. It’s developing enough emotional security that attraction, vulnerability, intimacy, dependence, and love no longer automatically feel dangerous. And if you’re dating an avoidant partner and constantly questioning whether they’re physically attracted to you, remember this: understanding the psychology behind emotional distancing can explain a behavior, but it doesn’t erase the impact that behavior has on you. #AvoidantAttachment #MyPartnerIsntAttractedToMe #PhysicalAttraction #RelationshipAnxiety

my avoidant is vietnamese. she speaks english but definitely not fluent. i was her longest relationship ever. she told me her longest relationship was just a few weeks. but she had a lot of partners. we were together for almost 6 years... she broke up with me numerous times only to come back again. im.pretty sure she is a narcissist and not just an avoidant. but i guess ill never truly know. sex was great but emotion intelligence was 0. definitely surface level conversations at all times.

Actually, it doesn’t have anything to do with “type”- they purposely date “below” themselves so that they always have the upper hand and can control the partner by making them feel grateful. They always want a person who they deem socially inferior.

It’s. Crazy how as females we can draw someone that’s not our type but can grow a bond yet some men can be so superficial that they can’t get beyond looks. Crazy part is half the time their type don’t like them

He grew resentful really fast bc on top of not being attracted to me, I was not as much of a pushover as he thought i'd be.

Mine is was very athletic- I’m on the thick side but very confident & secure. We ended a call 5 mins later ..he calls me back to tell me how fine the women in the gym were.. I didn’t react immed but later told him it was disrespectful & im not interested in hearing about other women. He made a lot of fat phobic comments & mentioned he nvr dated any1 my size.. I know im very beautiful so it nvr bothered me.. BUT it bothered him a lot that I didn’t care .. so he switched to the “single mom” topics always wanted to talk about how single moms don’t deserve quality men.. (im a single mom) & how quality men shouldn’t be responsible for a woman’s past mistakes, nothing ever stuck w me because I’ve been loved my size & as a single mom, but looking back he constantly tried to humble me. He made it very very clear I wasn’t his type.. but I think i actually was .. just not easy to manipulate

Yep…he showed interest in me first. I had no interest in getting to know him, until I did because he was showing that interest. We didn’t technically date, it was an in office thing. He was territorial and all that crap. He ghosted when I invited him to hang out outside of work. Popped up a few months later, left again, then popped in an again and left…again. Haven’t seen or heard from him since (he also switched jobs). I found out a month ago that apparently he had been in a relationship since late last year, around the time of the first pop in with me. I’ve never dated before and guys have never shown interest in me, this has completely tainted my view of dating. If it’s going to be like this, I don’t want it.

That’s why I say I’m no man’s type now. It’s broken me. Especially when they come back and say I was a good woman after they went after their type and they got dogged out or men have told me I should be lucky men even look at me.

Hmm. Interesting. He said he looked big women. When we got together, i was 60 pounds heavier. The more weight i lost, the meaner he got. So i think he only liked bigger women for that reason.
