@jacobdoesmoney2: Own any ETF? You're probably making one of these three mistakes, and the third one just cost people 63%. VOO closed at $701.83 on August 24. SPLG tracks the exact same S&P 500 index for about $90 a share and charges 0.02% a year to VOO's 0.03%. The only other difference is the size of each share, so one SPLG share pays a smaller dividend check than one VOO share. The yield is the same. The overlap numbers come straight from the fund pages, latest available: Nvidia is 7.55% of VOO (July 31), 8.5% of QQQ (August 13), and 22.05% of SMH (August 21). VOO's top 10 stocks are 38% of the whole fund. QQQ's top 10 are 46%. SMH's top 5 alone are 49%. If you want a tech fund on top of VOO, pick one of them, not both. From the June 22 peak through August 24, SOXL is down 63% (300.77 to 111.16) while SOXX, the regular chip ETF, is down 23% (655.01 to 506.18). At the July 29 low, SOXL was down 69%. In 2024, SOXX finished the year up 12.9% and SOXL finished down 12.3%, because a 3x fund resets every single day. In 2022, SOXL lost 85.7%. I hold VOO, SMH, and AIS. Nothing leveraged. Save this and check your own account for all three.
