An email address isnt a physical address. You can use apps in other locations where they may have a tv license

The amount of money and effort the BBC and it's associated companies are going to is astounding. When are they going to accept the licence fee model is redundant.

I had one of these letters, due to the amount of scams that go around. I actually thought it was one as I don't watch much tv anyway sadly I'm a bookworm but I'm sure that will be licensed next 😂. Anyway I binned it, only to then receive further ones. so I contacted licensing to see what was going on, and apparently they had my email on record. Unfortunately for them that's a bit of an impossibility as the last time I watched BBC was at my mums when EastEnders was on. and it was the story line of phil and grant mitchell when one of them drove into the thames lol. So not sure how they got my email as I have not seen BBC in years, Anyhow I attempted to reassure them I do not need a license and I have repeatedly filled out the letter every time I receive it, to ask if circumstances have changed. And guess what I now am subject to a home visit where my devices may possibly be checked to make sure. Surely that is not even legal? right!!! and I have a smart TV with the iPlayer app built in but I've never set it up. so would they catch me out if I were to open it to show them it's not set up? I mean my house literally is full of books so it's blatantly obvious I read a lot. But I'm concerned this is a bit of a gotcha moment if this is what is going on.

I did have a visit from them at one point, the guy was okay - tried to do a “gotcha” on the sky dish outside the house, I pointed out there was no lnb or cabling - he asked what we used the tvs for - I said they are all Roku or Apple streaming boxes. They asked the last time I watched live tv, and where that was - he then said things were fine and left. I think if it was an older person or someone without the technical understanding they would probably got them to buy one

I have autism, and I have a TV license literally because fear gets the better of me. I know I don't need it, but the fear gets to me.

Never You Mind :
As much as this whole concept of TV licenses is ridiculous, I can see how their new data source will give them more weight behind prosecution because; the email address will come with an IP source and ISP name that can be matched with the homeowner. Another way the BBC get you to pay for something, that should be free.

This funding model is unfair and quite outrageous. The BBC should be a subscription service and people could choose.

I paid for 5 years without watching TV as I was scared of having to deal with their threats. I’ve now declared that I don’t need one and no threat so far.
