@evvybio: The vaginal microbiome plays a direct role in whether UTI-causing bacteria are able to take hold and keep coming back. When the vaginal environment is in a healthy, balanced state, it’s typically dominated by protective bacteria like Lactobacillus. These bacteria help maintain a low pH and create conditions that make it harder for harmful microbes to grow and spread. But when that balance is disrupted (whether due to sex, antibiotics, hormonal shifts, or other factors) protective bacteria can decline. This creates an opportunity for disruptive bacteria to colonize the vaginal area. Because the urethra sits so close to the vagina, these bacteria can more easily travel into the urinary tract, leading to infection. For some people, this becomes a cycle: bacteria repeatedly move from the vaginal microbiome into the urethra, triggering recurrent UTIs. #uti #chronicuti #utitreatments #dmannose
