she donated to AIDS research during the epidemic, defended drag queens, advocated for gay marriage, was openly against the bathroom bill. some of the last things she did was donate $1mil to a children's cancer charity, she donated so much to a hospital it was named after her, and she volunteered to have experimental cancer treatments tested on her (regardless of her chances of survival) so future patients would have a better shot at survival. she did much of this quietly because appearing apolitical generated the money she used to better the world. she never claimed to be perfect but she's pretty damn close
