They don’t… But not in the way you think. People do care about you, they often just don’t care about the things you do, fail at, achieve. And more often than not we read this sentence, or tell it to ourselves, and it has a negative connotation. It shouldn’t. The truth is so much of what is said and done these days is forgotten quickly, even the things you have spent so long striving towards. I use to be afflicted by this, thinking this world would only be good if it rejoiced in my accolades. I have made monumental achievements in my life that, truthfully, are fleeting. It doesn’t say anything about me as a person, but I have needed to let go of this mindset that I’m doing something for the approval (or dismay) of others. When we hear the quote “nobody cares” our brains can choose to go one of two ways: on one hand you have the self defeating mumbling to yourself version, on the other you have a reality check moment, I can do most anything. This is your life, how you use it to the benefit of others will always be welcomed, even for just a moment. Let my life, short as it is, be full to the brim even if no one notices. I want to do all the things I fear doing, or feel silly striving towards. I often stop myself thinking people will cringe at me, or what I say or how I work. I just don’t care anymore. I wish I learned earlier that neither do most. Life is quick and beautiful, make it full and rich with the things you want to do, and make your wants be to the benefit of everyone you can.
