@kathyatthebeach: One thing I didn’t expect about retirement was how much I would learn about myself. I thought having more time would mostly mean having more freedom to decide what I wanted to do with my days. And it has. But more time also brings more quiet. And sometimes that quiet gives you space to think about things that were much easier to push aside when life was filled with work, schedules and responsibilities. Time. Aging. The people we love. The things we still want to experience. The things that don’t seem nearly as important anymore. Sometimes that can feel a little scary. And yet I feel incredibly fortunate to have reached this stage of life and to have the opportunity to discover what it looks like for me. Maybe that’s another part of retirement I didn’t plan for. The quieter my life becomes, the more clearly I’m beginning to hear myself. And perhaps that’s not something to fear.
