We have more tax in the EU but we definitely dont pay crazy medical bills / insurance. Definitely not the same

mat leave in canada is either 12 or 18 months

You need to check that again for Canada- it’s 15 weeks of Maternity ( which only the mother gets) then it’s 40 weeks of Standard Parental benefits( meaning it’s shared between parents) that’s at 55% of weekly earnings ( 12 months) or you can get an Extended Parental benefit which is up to 69 weeks which can be shared and at a lesser weekly earnings of 33% (18 months) ! It’s definitely better than some countries!!

in the uk, new mums can take 12 months off work, they only get money for 9 months tho.

I have 3 children and live in Sweden. No it’s not 80% of your salary after taxes, It’s barley enough to survive… but it’s worth it to spend a lot of time with my kids :)

We don't have federal, but many companies have paid maternity leave. Not everything has to be run by government.
