we had the same in wales we had the Welsh knot which was a slab of wood that we had to wear around our necks if we spoke welsh as a way of shaming us out of speaking our language

Same thing happened in Wales. Kids were beaten and adults were arrested if they spoke Welsh. We’re the only country still under english rule
