Mexicans have 2% African-American while on the other hand Puerto Ricans have about 45 to 60% black. So I’m not understanding how Mexicans are the closest thing to black.

The thing is We Mexicans aren't exposed to that word in a negative way. Most of our understanding of the word comes from movies where black people use it to refer to another friend calling them my N-word so obviously we, who had never developed a story of slavery cuz our second president was black, only understand it from what we see in TV and movies
