Genetically wild rice and faux wild rice (usually from California) are not the same. It isn't just the way it is grown. Wild rice is from the Red River Valley primarily. Tribes try to grow it in the estuaries of Lake Superior and the Lake's ice flows rip it out. So the tribes have to re-cultivate every year - pretty strong indication that it is NOT a native plant. The wild rice plants also kill the actually native lily pads and other native plants. The dead wild rice plants clog up the estuaries and create a hazard for native birds, frogs, and insects. The tribes are planting wild rice for the money and no other reason, even though they know it isn't native and is detrimental to the estuaries and ultimately to Lake Superior wild life. #itsallaboutthemoney #poisoningnatureformoney

creamy chicken wild rice soup is the best. I'm waiting patiently for my cousin to finish processing his harvest. I ran out of rice from my rez a while ago and I won't eat any other kind.

I went ricing a few times as a little kid and I had such a good time. But there's such a big taste difference in Great Lakes area Wild Rice and farmed wild rice.
