@elite.recruiter: If an interviewer asks what you are currently making, do not panic. And please do not say you signed an NDA. Say this instead: "I am keeping my current compensation confidential but what I can tell you is that I am looking for a total package in the range of X to Y based on the scope of this role and my research into market rate for this level." You are not lying. You are not disclosing a number that anchors the negotiation against you. You are redirecting to what you want not what you have. If they push and say they need a number, say this: "I understand. I want to make sure we are aligned on the scope before I give you a specific number. Can you share the budgeted range for this role so I know we are in the same ballpark?" You just flipped the dynamic. Now they are the ones answering questions. The strongest negotiation starts before the interview. Knowing your market value gives you the confidence to discuss compensation without letting your current salary define your next one.

I would just tell and it’s almost always end of discussion 😬

Oh, I totally have done exactly as you suggested - not given my compensation number and instead asked them for a range and I remember the interviewer hung up on me because she got annoyed. This was a very reputable company by the way. 🤣
