Poland's reported 700-tonne gold reserve target is a case study in how official reserve policy is communicated and interpreted. World Gold Council data available through 31 July 2026 recorded National Bank of Poland holdings of 640 tonnes, after an 8-tonne July purchase and 90 tonnes of year-to-date buying. That leaves an arithmetic difference of about 60 tonnes to the reported target, but it is only a point-in-time comparison, not a purchase promise or completion timetable. The more useful question is not whether a target predicts a gold price. It is what a stated reserve objective says about diversification, resilience and portfolio construction. Gold remains one component of a broader reserve portfolio. NBP's published reserve-management framework places safety and liquidity first, with long-term return considered after those priorities. Reported accumulation can be a meaningful policy signal. It does not establish what another central bank will do, when Poland may transact next, or how any market will perform.
