As someone with 4 of my own dogs and always several fosters, I wholeheartedly agree with all of this! Another big no for me is dog parks. I know my dogs but I don’t know yours. Not worth the risk in my opinion! 😬

I thought the same about pet insurance. Pay about $65 a month for one dog…until he had a 7k tummy ache and I got over 5k back lol

I will never not have pet insurance. Saving instead of a monthly premium is great but one emergency can wipe out years of savings

We have had pet insurance for our dog for her whole life - $40/month x 6 years. $250 deductible and 90% coverage. We have only paid $3000 total for insurance her entire hole life. The 3 ER visits she has had have already made it worth it. We could never afford a big orthopedic surgery without it.

I completely respect choosing what you feel is right for your own dogs, and I actually agree about avoiding dog parks and being cautious about unknown dogs. Where I struggle is with the message that dogs don’t need socialization or exposure outside of their home. Socialization doesn’t mean dog parks, playing with strange dogs or allowing everyone to pet your dog. For me, it means exposing dogs to the world in a safe and controlled way and teaching them how to exist confidently and neutrally in it. I want my dogs to see other dogs and learn that they don’t need to react to or interact with them. I want them comfortable with different people, environments, sounds, surfaces and situations. Every owner can decide what works for their individual dog, but I do think there’s an important distinction between avoiding unnecessary interactions and avoiding socialization altogether.

yes to putting them In a cage or a pen well guest are over only my like 7 year old German shepherd stays out because she is sooo lazy stays in teh basement most of the time and if up stairs on her bed and she jsut started to be able to not be In a cage

No dog parks. They are disease centers. But mine love riding in cars. So Dutch Bros is their favorite.

Girl I felt that way on the pet insurance when my 10 year old needed a TPLO, but got it anyway-fast forward to UTIs, bladder stones, gallbladder issues, mass on the thyroid, daily meds-it’s been a game changer. He’s 12 now and has 1/2 of those surgeries and meds covered

I will say we got pet insurance and the first year we had our dog he developed an infection in his spine that cost over 30k in bills. Insurance saved us
