@joe.tablan: The CRA can take up to 53% of your RRSP the day you die 💀 The DAY you die, your entire RRSP balance gets added to your income — all in one year, no spreading it out 📉 A $500K RRSP can turn into roughly $250K left for your family after tax. Most people find this out from their accountant, after it’s already too late to fix ⏳ Here’s how to stop it 👇 ✅ Spousal rollover (ITA s.146(8.1)) — transfers the RRSP to your spouse completely tax-deferred ✅ Successor annuitant on your RRIF (ITA s.146.3(6.11)) — the account just continues, no collapse, no tax hit ✅ Life insurance (ITA s.148) — tax-free payout that covers the eventual bill so your kids never have to cash out the account under pressure None of this is a loophole. It’s just knowing the rules the government already wrote 📜 If you want to see exactly how this applies to YOUR RRSP or RRIF, DM me the word RRSP💬 and we’ll map it out together. ⚠️ This is for general education only and isn’t personalized tax, legal, or financial advice. Every situation is different — talk to your own advisor before acting. you know what pisses me off? Investors tell us to invest in RRSP’s to defer tax… and then you take it out later in life at a lower tax bracket…. so you save the difference between your current tax rate and a lower rate when you take out less at retirement. BUT.. if your investments have doubled or more .. you end up paying CRA way more than you deferred because you’re being taxed on the growth as well. CRA should only be able to tax you UP TO the amount you deferred on the original investment. CRA = THIEVES

"...take up to 53% of your RSP" is misleading, no? We are taxed progressively. ~19% on first ~$50,000 of the RSP, ~22% on the next ~$8000 of it, etc. ~53% is only applied to the last amount over ~$260000. So, more like 43% overall for $500,000.

Rrsp and cpp are such a scam. Just a way for the govt to collect money and hope you pass away before you can touch it.

It's because you got the tax break when. you put it into the RRSP and they are only taxed when you take it out. Makes 100% sense that you need to tax it upon death.
