As the flood intensifies, fast-moving muddy water carrying sediment, rocks and debri rushes through the narrow valley. The strong current reaches the riverside structure, erodes the surrounding ground and undermines its foundation. As erosion continues, sections of the building collapse and are carried downstream. In the "after" view, the structure is no longer visible and the affected area has become part of a much wider debris-covered flood channel. Mountain regions such as Nepal and the wider Himalayan belt can be particularly vulnerable to flash floods, landslides, intense rainfall and glacial or high-altitude water-related hazards. Narrow valleys can concentrate fast-moving water.
