I had a teacher with a doctorate in biblical studies once, and she said that her favorite theory about the pronunciation of the name is that it really doesn’t have any vowels, because when you don’t pronounce the vowels it sounds like breathing, like human breath, which would make sense since that’s how life was given to people in the creation story. He literally breathed life into them, and therefore the name they call him is the sound of their breath.

Considering the origin of the Abrahamic god comes from the Canaanite pantheon as one of the sons of El, couldn't older texts be used as a clue to figure out the name? By the same token, as far as I'm aware, most Semitic languages only use the consonants so that still might not shed much light on the issue.

it’s interesting how often this happened. like the word bear is supposedly from a word meaning brown, because saying the true word for bear was taboo—you’d summon the bear—but everyone knew what you meant by a brown being seen in the area. ig we know what it means too, but how many words have been completely lost like that??
