One of them was 53-year-old Dwain Hall, whom investigators say she met through an online fetish community. Hall picked Sonia up from the airport and took her to an Airbnb in rural Florida. What followed quickly became disturbing. Investigators later found footage showing Sonia with multiple injuries, while messages and calls suggested she had become frightened and wanted help. Sonia never made her flight home. Days later, her body was discovered buried in a shallow grave in Marion Oaks. An autopsy found that she had suffered four fatal sharp-force injuries. Investigators eventually uncovered a trail of evidence allegedly linking Hall to her disappearance and death, including surveillance footage, messages, financial records, and a knife believed to contain Sonia’s blood. Hall was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping, though he has pleaded not guilty. What makes the case particularly disturbing is the question surrounding Sonia’s apparent willingness to participate in dangerous acts—and whether Hall crossed a line that ultimately ended in murder.
