@petethetechguy: The AI bubble has finally burst, but it didn’t happen in the United States. It has happened in South Korea. #aitechnology #aiindustry #techindustry #technewsdaily #technews
almost everything he said is misinformation 🙄 what is normal stock market correction has to do with real technology? all these companies make crazy amount of money

There was no AI bubble bursting in Korea. They have a heavy gambling issue within the stock market. Everyone trades on leveraged meaning forced closed positions.

this is completely false, what happened was it went viral in Korea to put all your money in memory stocks, and also borrow all you can and put it in a leveraged memory stocks, ones that move 3x what the memory stocks do, so when there was a little dip it didn't take much for people to be forced to sell because they were so leveraged a 20% move down meant some people lost 100% of their money because they were so leveraged and your broker automatically sells your stock when that happens and that makes it Go lower and triggers more people to sell....etc
it had nothing to do with AI or memory chips. or de me and worried. bc the demand for memory chips kept increasing throughout this, that kind of help it happen because it seemed like a guaranteed bet to make.
it was naivety about the stock market not about technology.

Local ai won’t be that powerful like Claude. If ai datacenters going to die in the future then big closed source corps like ChatGPT and Claude might change their business model and sell their ai model like selling a software

We are going to load up on open source models Peter and we are going to have intelligence living on our computers. That’s what we are gonna do or that’s my plan.

There is zero use case for AI beyond 10 years. Local models will become smaller and smarter, chips will get better. These huge data centers wont be needed.

The "we now have a small model of what the AI bubble burst looks like" framing doesn't hold up. A few things:
1. Korea's crash was mostly a leverage problem, not proof of an AI bust. Koreans had piled into leveraged single-stock ETFs and margin buys in SK Hynix and Samsung (together about half the KOSPI). When prices dipped, forced liquidations of ~2.3 trillion won turned a correction into a rout. The fuel was margin calls, not a failed AI story.
2. Your numbers are real: 10.8% in one day on July 28 (worst one-day drop in Korean history), both chip giants down 20%+ from peak. But you leave out that the market bounced ~18% in the next two sessions. An actual bubble burst doesn't do that. This looked like a froth purge.
3. "None of the AI companies are posting significant profit" is an overstatement. Nvidia, Microsoft, and Google are posting record numbers. The real debate is whether the data-center spending pace is sustainable, not whether profits exist.
4. "Koreans started asking uncomfortable questions" is narrative, not mechanism. The mechanism was concentrated index + borrowed money.
AI chip selling was the trigger, Korean leverage was the fuel, and calling it a "small model" of a US AI burst is a big extrapolation. At most it's a warning about froth elsewhere, which even the more careful analyses only say as a maybe.
