the maturity difference. Let's say its 14 and 16. The 16yo probably has a job or is looking for one, learning how to drive and be an adult. They have more responsibilities and therefore are(usually) more mature. A 14yo most likely just finished middle school, isn't too worried about needing a job or drivers license yet, and is on average less mature than a 16yo. Now if it were 2 adults, say 22yo and 24yo, they both would have the same maturity levels. Both had finished high school(assuming they didn't drop out), both most likely have jobs and a drivers license, they both are looking for or have their own home, and they overall have the same maturity levels because of that. If a 14 and 16yo date, its a young teen dating a young adult, the maturity levels are vastly different and both are going through different things in life(aside from personal things)

Cuz mentally when you are a teenager a two year age difference is massive social wise and what you are taught and since it is a period where you change a lot in a short time. But in adulthood, those speedy years have slowed down so the maturity level is relatively similar

because 2 years is a bigger percent of your life when you are in highschool versus when you are an adult. 2 years is an eighth of a 16 year olds life, but a fifteenth of a 30 year olds life.
