Tips from me, make sure the motor has good compression if possible. You’re looking for something not completely abused. Make sure to keep the trailer bearing greased and you wont have to replace the bearing nearly as often. Make sure the transom (back) is not rotten as thats where your motor will pull down at. If accessible, buy a transom saver. Always always ensure you have the papers.

You can get up to a 14 ft Jon boat but the transom can only support small outboards but on the plus side you can remove it when storing . Tohatsu motors are basically mercury’s but the price is cheaper

If possible you want to do a compression check on the motor before buying. Any other problems with them would be fairly minor.

16 foot wide flat bottom with a small mud motor with title definitely if you live in Texas and just want small upgrade from a kayak and it will get into tight spots

Buy you a 14 foot John boat my buddy bought one for 1000 bucks with a brand new motor and we can fit three people and a dog with hunting or fishing gear comfortably or relatively. It’s pretty stable.
