i had so much fun throwing my marie antoinette themed birthday party for my 28th! An Essay on Birthdays: This was the first proper birthday PARTY I've had since high school, I believe. For all these years, I suppose I had thought that...everyone just sort of outgrows birthday parties. And it's normal for one to get sort of melancholic on their birthday. And it's expected for one to begin to dread their birthday every year. and that was that. It's a sobering thought - realizing that we are the adults now; unfortunately, we are no longer children with birthday parties magically handed to us by our parents - with cakes magically ordered, decorations magically hung up, and all our friends magically coordinated, invited and congregated sucessfully, haha. It finally dawned on me that WE have to be the ones to throw the birthday parties or they'll never happen again. We have to be the ones who put in the work to make birthdays feel magical or they just...won't be. I suppose I'm a bit late to the party (no pun intended) in realizing that the childhood magic I missed so much wasn't actually magic at all - it was the time, money and hard work of the adults who loved us. So, I'd like to thank all the adults that would make magic for us as kids, I'd like to thank myself (lol) for learning how to create magic in adulthood and I'd like to thank all my loved ones who took the time and effort to come down and feel the magic with me. It took plenty of planning, stressing and sweating (haha), but my birthday finally felt magical again. And I'm very happy 🩷
