To preface I’d much rather live in Australia! But this is super misleading, the median wealth in Australia is so egregiously high because there is a bloody housing crisis, and whilst it’s more lucrative to be a McDonald’s worker in Australia than the USA, the American McDonald’s worker has significantly greater purchasing power because things that actually hit your bank account like gas and housing in the USA are so so so much cheaper relative to the wages. Not to mention average salaries in the USA are much higher than Australia

There’s a lot of things that Australia does right but median (or average) wealth is usually just an indication of how much assets like houses have appreciated over time. Australian housing prices have gone up about 300% over the last 50 years as opposed to around 150% in America. Minimum income is also pretty meaningless when virtually no American makes $7.25 an hour
