I’m 37 now and have a net worth of $1.1m but I am really wondering where I’d be had I started earlier. 2️⃣ Invest as soon (and as much) as you can Compound interest is your best friend. The younger you start investing, the earlier you can have more freedom and flexibility. 3️⃣ Don’t max out for your 401(k) Maxing out your 401(k) reduces your tax liability but that exchange for tax savings keeps your money locked up until your 59 ½. Invest enough to get the full match from your employer (free money!). 4️⃣ Open a Roth IRA and contribute the max, every year Roth IRA contributions are accessible at any time. You can use this money as a bridge to get you between the age you retire until the age you can access your 401(k) contributions or draw on social security. 5️⃣ Being rich is better than looking rich Paying yourself and protecting your future should be your number one priorities. No one cares about the designer labels. 6️⃣ Don’t get that fancy car Don’t upgrade your car when you get promoted. Drive a used, paid off car. You will LOVE not having a car payment. 7️⃣ Stop using your debit card Your debit card has less protections than a credit card. Pay it off every month and you can earn points to travel! 8️⃣ Open a high-yield savings account You’re actually losing money while it’s in your checking or savings account (due to inflation. Open up a HYSA so your money works for you, passively. 9️⃣ Buying a home isn’t all it’s cracked up to be Owning a home is hard (and expensive). You’re not throwing away money on rent. You have a lot of flexibility and literally zero responsibilities for maintenance. 🔟 A corporate job isn’t the only the way people get rich, but it can fund your dreams Start something of your own sooner, but don’t forget that a good corporate job is something to be thankful for.
