@hamzeh.majiet: 🚨 NEW RETAILER ENTERS SOUTH AFRICA’S MASS-MARKET RETAIL SPACE KwaMakhi has launched in South Africa as a new discount retail format by Clicks Group, positioned to compete more directly with Boxer and Shoprite in the country’s high-volume FMCG market. The concept is designed around South Africa’s township economy, estimated at around R900 billion annually, which remains one of the strongest drivers of FMCG demand in the country. The first store has opened in Tembisa, with a phased rollout planned as the model is refined based on consumer response and trading performance. KwaMakhi stores are significantly smaller than traditional Clicks formats, typically ranging between 280 and 350 square metres, with a focus on essential FMCG categories rather than full pharmacy services. The range is centred on high-frequency everyday products, including personal care, household essentials, and basic consumables, aligned to weekly repeat purchasing behaviour. Private label will play a key role, starting at around 30% of the assortment and potentially increasing to 40%, supporting a more competitive pricing strategy. The model also introduces everyday low pricing, smaller pack sizes, and planned refill stations for selected products as part of a longer-term cost and accessibility strategy. @clicksza #Clicks #Kwamakhi #SouthAfrica #Food #Retail #news

I always find it interesting how they give them these names... Can't it just be clicks or dischen + or something... It mislead that it'd black owned

Major Retailers are increasingly rendering smaller businesses redundant. While they position this as convenient the reality is they are wiping out smaller players.

Colour scheme leans heavily towards Shoprite. They could have come up with a better colour scheme.

This is how the R500 million announced for improving township economy was distributed. It wasn’t meant for the township economy and for black folks. It’s for large retailers to enter the township market and collapse spaza shops, as if we don’t have enough trouble with Pakistanis etc.
