@chinaembassyinmaldives: In just a few days, the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge will mark its 8th anniversary of opening to traffic. To mark the occasion, let’s take a look back at the story of the bridge — from its construction to its opening, and the changes it has brought to life and travel in the Maldives. Today’s story is about how a “natural barrier” was transformed into a “road of connection.” The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge officially broke ground in March 2016 and opened to traffic on August 30, 2018. At the time of construction, the shore near the bridgehead in Malé, capital of the Maldives, was a busy construction complex, consisting of a bridge prefabrication yard, concrete batching plant, plus offices and living quarters for the construction workforce. After completion, the Vadhoo Channel between Malé and Airport Island is no longer an obstacle. Stretching across the sea to connect the two coasts, the bridge has tremendously facilitated inter-island travel and transport across the Maldives. #ChinaMaldivesFriendshipBridge#8thAnniversary(1)
