Fairly chaotic discussion about mast cell disease and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), which more and more doctors are becoming aware of, especially because many people with Long COVID have unfortunately developed it. I will forever be grateful to the “Histamine Queen,” who was the most generous, incredibly kind, and invaluable resource for me—not only with this condition, but also when my mother was first diagnosed with cancer. Tragically, she lost her battle with cancer, leaving behind an enormous and irreplaceable hole in the universe. If you are experiencing multiple, seemingly unrelated symptoms after a lifetime or an intense period of trauma, followed by a virus, and suddenly your stomach isn’t feeling right, or you begin developing hives, migraines, vertigo, constant itching, or sneezing when you never experienced these things before; if foods suddenly aren’t agreeing with you, you feel exhausted and anxious all the time, or your hair is falling out and no clear medical reason can be found—please consider looking into Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. There are many different symptoms associated with mast cell disorders, ranging from skin reactions to, in severe cases, anaphylaxis. Please educate yourself about MCAS and speak with a knowledgeable doctor, particularly one who may have covered the condition in medical school or has experience treating it, to see whether you can find some relief. There are also many medications that can help control the symptoms. If you know of any reliable and informative mast cell resources or support pages, please share their links in the comments so others can educate themselves and better understand whether this may be what they are experiencing and what steps they can take to get help.
