On his coronation ceremony, he reportedly played with toys, ran from the throne to sit on his mother’s lap and removed a lion-skin crown because it was too heavy. King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV lived almost his entire life on the throne. He became Omukama of Tooro at three years old, long before he could understand the weight of the crown. His extraordinary journey turned him into an international symbol of youthful leadership. Oyo was born on April 16, 1992, to King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Rwamuhokya Olimi III and Queen Best Kemigisa. His father died on August 26, 1995, leaving the young prince as heir to the Tooro throne. He was installed on September 12, 1995, shortly after his father’s burial. His accession made him the world’s youngest reigning monarch, a distinction recognised by Guinness World Records. King Oyo died at about 10pm on August 27, 2026, according to Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki.
