Despite being a tiny dog in an environment with venomous snakes, birds of prey, rough terrain, and unpredictable weather, she somehow survived alone for 529 days. After a farmer spotted her more than a year later, Kangala Wildlife Rescue spent weeks carefully tracking and trapping her using cameras, familiar scents, food, and a remotely triggered enclosure. She was eventually found about 30 miles from where she disappeared. Even more unbelievably, Valerie came back heavier and more muscular than when she vanished, going from under 9 pounds to nearly 13 pounds.
