@navigatingournorm: His abilities don’t cancel out his disability. 🤍 He can talk. He can ride a bike. He can laugh, play and do so many incredible things. Yet, he can still require very substantial support to navigate his everyday world. Autism doesn’t always look the way you expect it to. 🌈 #AutismAwareness #AutismAcceptance #AutismParenting Level3Autism #Neurodiversity #NavigatingOurNormal
Level 2 here with ADHD I’m an adult I work I am married we can still do things it’s our emotional baseline that has a small window of tolerance that’s the difference between 1 and 2, our nervous systems are built different.

yes!!! my 7 yr old is ASDL3 verbal. so many people were surprised with his diagnosis, but they never really seen the risks and supports he truly needs just to get through the day and night.

I've actively had people tell me I'm "not a level 3" but rather a "level 2 at best" because I'm a high masker with high grades while ignoring the social and emotional ways I'm affected on the daily 🙄
People need to be more educated on Autism. In basically every way. hopefully it's easier for him than it was for me 🙏

someone asked me when my son was 4 if I was sure he was a level 2 ASD as he is verbal. He turns 13 on Tuesday and has since be rediagnosed as level 3. Yes he speaks sentences, but he has an IQ of 49, goes to special school, was in nappies until 11, he cant ride a bike but he can ride a scooter. Level 3 doesnt mean completely non verbal but its how much support they require to function. Also normally level 3 will have other disabilities like intellectual disability like my son.

Great job on the language here. We don’t “struggle” with autism. We struggle with actions as a result of the condition. Sometimes it feels like splitting hairs but I truly believe this makes a difference. We love our autism in this family and completely embrace it because it makes us who we are! Some days multitasking ain’t a thing and some days we are locked in! Other days we are bed-down for days bc overwhelm is real. 🥰
