I struggled pretty badly with confidence when I was younger. Things that others would find easy I would agonise over.  Especially things that required me to stand up in front of a room full of people and perform. But why? I’m so keen to know whether this sort of thing is genetic or environmental? Does anyone know? I’m especially keen to learn because I’ve noticed a few patterns in my 4 year old son…. Things like him not wanting me to leave his tennis camp that we’re doing this week for the first 20 minutes while he warms up to it. The new people, the new routine, the new skill. The crazy thing is he’s SO good at sport, so it can’t be because he’s not good. Is he testing my boundaries ? Seeing what he can negotiate ? Or is he genuinely full of fear? Other kids are being dumped and left for 2 hours straight. When I was younger I still did those hard things. I still won the ballet cup and the piano cup. I did house drama, I did all the camps and I played competitive sports … so I’m glad I was pushed to do those things. If I’d won and had it my way and not done those things I would have missed out on so many opportunities !! But I felt some level of little person anxiety in the build up to doing them. Ryan was the same. But he looks back and wishes he was pushed more to do things like rugby questioning whether he could have been pro.  The worst for me was having to present or read in front of a class because it was solo. Was I just shy? I also hated going into our Notting Hill communal garden on my own becuase I found it scary, whereas my brother would be in there in a flash. On the outside you never would have know becuase I was very popular and did every activity under the sun… even fencing. Case in point.  I want my little boy to excel, I want everyone to excel, so that’s one of the reasons why I created this video. Because it’s so important to try everything and push yourself out of your comfort zone, becuase maybe it is a personality thing - maybe we are shy or resistant to doing hard things but the only way we can possibly get better at doing them is realising that they’re not that hard and that we’re actually really good at doing those things.    From personal experience - We need to COLLECT EVIDENCE.    We need to remind our brains that we are brave and interesting and powerful and worthy and enough and flawed and imperfect and that all of those things are good and all of those things can exist together.    So if you’re anything like me then 👇🏼    Collecting evidence > Chasing confidence    Get going and do the hard things. You might surprise yourself. X
